The Elderly and Driving

There are more accidents per mile driven in Adults 65 and older than in any other age group. Winter driving comes with even more hazardous road conditions and weather, and needs even more vigilance and care when driving. There are a few precautions you can take during the winter in Northeast Ohio.
Winterize your vehicle before bad weather hits. Have your fluids such as antifreeze checked, windshield wipers, and tires checked or replaced as needed to ensure they are in optimal driving condition.
Remember to take your fully charged cell phone with you when you drive in winter weather. Let someone know where you are going and when you should return.
Avoid driving during severe weather conditions such as high winds, blizzards, or snow storms.
Stock your vehicle with basic emergency supplies such as a flashlight, blankets, batteries, shovel, road salt, and cables.
