Fire and Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Risks

During winter months in Northeast Ohio, temperatures and plummet quickly. Many turn to wood burning fireplaces, natural gas, kerosene, space heaters, or other heating resources to stay warm. This also increase risk of a fire or carbon monoxide leaks.
Here are a few precautionary measures you can take to lower your risk this winter.
Have your chimneys and flues or furnaces inspected annually.
Open a window, even a small crack, while using a kerosene heating source.
Make sure you have working smoke / carbon monoxide detector located throughout the house, especially around fireplaces, wood stoves, and other heaters.
Make sure space heaters are at least 3 feet away from anything that may catch fire, such as curtains, bedding, clothes, or furniture.
Never heat your home using unsafe methods or practices, such as via a gas stove or charcoal grill.
